From Parfaits To Purses
Say Magnolia to many Manileños and you can expect a misty-eyed wave of childhood nostalgia to erupt as visions of banana splits, sundaes, parfaits and milkshakes from the beloved Magnolia Ice Cream House pour forth.
So perhaps it’s only fitting that with the launch of their new lifestyle centre on the former site of that hallowed institution, it should be dubbed Robinsons Magnolia, and yes, there’s a new updated ice-cream parlour as part of the broad range of fashion, style and food options that have the city’s shoppers beating a path to Quezon City.
Toplining the fash-forward options are cult London stores Topshop, Topman and Miss Selfridge, along with US heavy hitters Tommy Hilfiger and Anne Klein, the swiftly growing French womenswear line Promod and Brit staples Warehouse and Mango.
Filipina labels Plains and Prints, Bayo and the Zac Efron-fronted teen fashion success Penshoppe are among the local
offerings, as well as a healthy selection of dining ranging from seafood-fest Clawdaddy to the extensive Robinsons open kitchen food court. But of all the reasons to visit, don’t be surprised if the biggest draw for many is still ice-cream.
With its new name, Magnolia Flavor House, its smart new glass-fronted premises just outside the main centre, and an all time greats menu featuring amongst others Peach Melba, Black & White and Tropical Trio, it really is the cherry on the sundae.
