Old Swiss Inn
Some things just don’t change, and thank heaven for it. Voted Best Central European Restaurant of 2012 in Manila’s Best Kept Restaurant Secrets Awards, Old Swiss House this year celebrates 67 golden years of hospitality and an awful lot of fondue!
Now, let’s be clear, you’ll find no spherification, gelification, foam and faffery at this inn, no Eames chairs or Starck wannabe interiors, Instead, the warm and woody, understated decor is the perfect foil for the comfort classic cuisine guaranteed to make even the most dyed-in-the-wool anti-nostalgist become misty-eyed.
It would be pointless, nay churlish, to come to the Old Swiss Inn and not try the house signature Waatlander fondue, a disgracefully good bubbling bowl of raclette cheese melted with kirsch, olive oil and garlic (you can try to resist, but you will fail), but the extensive menu is well worth exploring.
Where else will you find rhamschnitzel served with spatzle, creamy veal and mushroom geschnetzeltes with crispy roesti, and home-prepared corned beef brisket in soup with sautéed cabbage and boiled potatoes? Oh, and did we forget to mention the Toblerone chocolate fondue... Given that it’s open 24 hours a day and situated right next to the Peninsula Hotel, there’s simply no excuse not to pop in. En Guete!
