Given she’s one of the five original founder members of Manila’s premier fashion and décor boutiques Cura V, it’s little surprise that accessories designer Nicole Whisenhunt is at the top of her game, with fashionistas clamouring for her signature, ultra-accentuated, stone-studded necklaces and cuffs.
Having seen her designs adorning stylistas Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, Whisenhunt has lost no time in developing her collections with ever more extreme and individual silhouettes that encompass not only classic jewellery techniques, but also more recently, embroidery, padding, beading and sewing.
Incorporating semi-precious stones, beads, pina, freshwater pearls, ribbons, resin and crystals, all intricately hand sewn onto satin grounds, each piece represents a tour de force of expert embroidery techniques, resulting in exceptional, bold statement jewellery that doesn’t so much attract attention as demand it.
Take for instance the Jannah necklace from the Eden collection, inspired by the C.15th painting ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch, a peacock vision of agate and turquoise, halite and Swarovski crystals, or the 01 necklace from the Boudoir Rock collection, a magnificent, writhing mass of bronzite, crystals and amethyst.
For her latest FW 2012 collection ‘Kitana’ Whisenhunt has taken as her inspiration the geometric lines of origami, adding a fierce rock chic element of metal chains to create a neo-Japanese aesthetic that ‘delivers precision, lustre, & raw elegance’. Dare to wear!
