No-one can deny that chef Katrina Kuhn-Alcantara has certainly sought international inspiration for her second restaurant, a more casual and relaxed version of her first success Mesclun Restaurant and Cafe at The Linden Suites.
With influences from as far afield and diverse as France, Italy, Asia and Hawaii, the freshly minted little bistro with its bottle-decorated feature wall and pea-green seats only opened its doors in May, but has already caused quite a stir with its friendly all day dining menu and scandalously good Croclairs – you’ve heard of the Cronut™, now meet the Croissant/Eclair!
With a simple, but fresh and tasty take on sandwiches, baguettes, pizzas, salads and pasta, its difficult to know where to start, but don’t miss the freshly baked Alsatian-inspired Flammekeuche, a flatbread pizza with homemade creme fraiche and topped with a variety of choices from German speck to Italian garlic sausage, onions and Swiss cheese.
From Hawaii came the original idea behind Andre’s Poke (pronounced po-kay) a delectable melange of ahi tuna in soy sesame dressing with Sriracha mayonnaise served with crunchy crostini, while Italy and the Philippines meet in the pork sisig spaghetti with its light cream sauce topped with crispy pork skin. For maximum relaxed-glam though, go for the pan-seared foie gras baguette with raspberry-infused Port wine reduction, and don’t forget those Croclairs...!
