La Mesa Ecopark
As easy as it is to stay coolly ensconced in an air-conditioned bubble at home or at the mall, sometimes there’s nothing better for the soul than a flourish of green and a breath of fresh air. Not so simple in the hustle and bustle of metro Manila you may argue... but you’d be wrong! For just a 30 minute cab ride inland lies La Mesa Ecopark, an enormous, verdant, 2,700 hectare space home to a huge reservoir, forest and public parkland in Quezon City.
Of course, La Mesa has many a perfect spot for picnicking with barbecue facilities and shaded picnic benches, so we recommend filling your hamper beforehand at Shangrila Plaza’s The Blue Kitchen which sells fresh ham, fish roe, artisanal bread, and homemade pickles. Appetite sated, there’s a flurry of activities to while away the afternoon, including a saltwater swimming pool, boating lagoon with colourful wooden rowboats for rent, dappled forest bike trail, fishing lagoon, leisurely walking trail around the reservoir, and a butterfly reserve.
Or if you really want to get the adrenalin pumping, there’s zip-lining, bungee jumping, horse riding, archery, and of course everyone’s high octane favourite – miniature golf. If all of the above hasn’t satisfied your ardour for adventure, there are even camping facilities for overnight stays. Happy glamping!
