Behind The Exit Door
The speakeasy bar scene has in the past year skyrocketed in Manila, as is quickly evident in the huge popularity of nostalgic drinkeries like The Blind Pig
and Prohibition Liquor Lounge
. Adding fuel to the fire, this summer the folks behind the former have brought yet another swank, secretive spot to metro Makati, this one named ‘Exit’ and, appropriately, hidden behind one of the many exit doors in the Corinthian Plaza (hint: it’s at the back of Plaza Café, down a long hallway and to the left).
Once you’ve located Exit, set foot inside and you’ll find a room bathed in a warm glow, with a backlit latticed bar and walls lined with dark leather banquettes. The decision to keep the interior simple keeps the focus squarely on the drinks: try their signature De Rigueur, a concoction of bourbon, grapefruit, and honey, or order an equally delicious Old Sport made with lemon, mint, and gin.
If you seek something stronger, try the James Bond Vesper. There’s a dandy list of local and imported beers like Blue Moon and Hitachino Nest, plus bar bites including nachos and fried zucchini. Exit this way…
