Art in the Hills
The Peninsula Manila introduces a new visual arts module of The Peninsula Academy – Art in the Hills. This new private walking tour complements the hotel’s current Academy programs which give guests a unique perspective on the Filipino way of life.

One of the most fascinating private art collections in the Philippines can be found in the Silangan Gardens and Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo City, nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range east of Manila and an hour’s drive from the hotel. The Silangan Gardens houses the Silangan Foundation for Arts, Culture and Ecology founded by one of the Philippines’ most respected neurologists, Dr Joven Cuanang.

Art in the Hills is a guided tour of the Silangan Gardens and Pinto Art Museum. It ends at the rooftop of the museum where guests are served a chilled glass of Deutz Peninsula Champagne while watching the lights of the metropolis below before dinner set under the stars.

A Taal Tale
The experience of journeying back in time is the promise held out to guests who wish to experience the newest addition to The Peninsula Manila’s Peninsula Academy heritage programs – “A Taal Tale”.

Time traveling starts at Villa Tortuga, a restored bahay na bato (19th century stone house), with hotel guests invited to dine at the house’s formal comedor (dining room) on local specialties served on antique pattern china, crystal and silverware.

After lunch a visit to the centuries-old Basilica of St Martin de Tours is next followed by a visit the home of one of the town’s most prominent families whose ancestor, Marcela Agoncillo, was one of two women who sewed the first Philippine flag.

To cap the afternoon’s celebration of Filipino-Spanish colonial life is a merienda (Philippine afternoon tea) of suman (rice cakes) dipped in tsokolate (native chocolate) at Casa Villavicencio.

“A Taal Tale” is available Monday to Sunday. It is a whole day tour with departure from The Peninsula Manila at 8:30 am. The price is PHP 25,000 per person (prices are subject to 10% service charge and applicable government taxes).
