The Roger Room
The description ‘pirate-themed bar’ might conjure somewhat less than fabulous mental imagery, but with a sophisticated fitout and constantly buzzy atmosphere, Hong Kong’s newest drinkery The Roger Room proves that scallywags can indeed take a turn for the chic.
The latest offering from the group behind across-the-road neighbour Chicha
, TRR takes its name and inspiration from infamous Caribbean-plundering ship The Jolly Roger, and its flavour from some of the very cargo it was famed for stealing – namely that delicious Peruvian brandy, Pisco.
With their matching ambient glow and rich red, woody interiors, the cosmetic congruity of the sister establishments is definitely discernible, but the similarities end there, with TRR’s port-holed door and hull-like design eliciting a decidedly nautical nuance – though thankfully sans stuffed parrot.
The collection of signature and classic Pisco-based cocktails shows some crossover with Chicha (a good thing given they blend some of the best Sours in town), and also includes the namesake Jolly Roger with Pisco, fresh crushed berries, lime and chili. A selection of small plate favourites have also made it over the road, including pork, sweet potato and salsa criolla sliders, Pan Con Chicharones, and the deliciously crunchy tacos. In other words, it’s the perfect perch for some pre and post-dinner revelry. Ahoy!
