Slow Food, The New Fast Food
Mana! Fast Slow Food
Anyone who has pounded the packed Hong Kong pavements during lunch hour knows it isn’t always easy to find a waistline-friendly meal, especially if you’re in a hurry. So when the city’s favourite vegetarian restaurateur Bobsy (a.k.a the man behind uber-popular Life Café) and Christian Mongendre announced plans for a new leaf-lover’s location, it’s unsurprising the Central set welcomed Mana! Fast Slow Food with open, well-toned arms.
With the mantra ‘Food that doesn’t cost the Earth’, Mana! has become a beacon of not only healthy fast food, but also home to a green and sustainable philosophy that applies to every aspect of the premises and menu.
With a fitout of recycled and reclaimed timbers, energy-saving lighting and organic tiles imported from Bali, Mana! offers eat-in diners a spot in the cute rear garden perfect for enjoying a glass of organic wine, or take-away options like coffee in Hong Kong’s first biodegradable cups.
Gluten-free, wholemeal flatbreads and salads like roast vegetable and beet dominate the menu, with daily soups, dhals and the namesake Mana! vege burger also popular choices. There are tangy za’atar and hummus toppings and a dessert cabinet filled with not-so-guilty goodies like vegan hazelnut chocolate cake, and when nature calls, fret not about wasting precious water – they’ve installed a device that saves 85% of the flush. Feel good factor - high!
