Laris Contemporary Dining
Celebrity chef David Laris is a man on a mission – shortly after opening Le Sheng
, his ode to traditional Shanghai cuisine, he turned his eye to Hong Kong, and swiftly set up his newest venture, Laris Contemporary Dining.
While his former namesake Shanghai fine-diner original boasted prime Bund views, Laris Hong Kong occupies a covetable Central space, and is a sleek vision of dark wood, sumptuous leather booths, and a marble open kitchen. The sophisticated décor pairs perfectly with the chef’s refined palate, and his menu reflects too the unique Australian and Greek heritage influences he brings to the table.
A selection of pre-starters includes house-tinned tuna and trio of oysters with toppings like seaweed jelly, red wine vinegar foam, and ponzu dressing; while the proper appetiser menu features treats like ocean trout tataki with slow cooked egg and keta caviar. The mains are meat-heavy, with pistachio-crusted Victorian farms Australian lamb and foie-gras stuffed pigeon being the standouts, though vegetarians can delight in the decadent truffle, mushroom and mascarpone risotto.
For dessert, there’s the tangy lime curd meringue tart, poached pear with honey truffle ice cream, or the sticky date pudding in brandy caramel sauce. And if you just can’t decide, opt for the 7-course tasting menu and trust that Chef Laris knows best.
