Italy’s Miramonti L’altro restaurant has held two Michelin stars since 2001, an impressive feat accomplished largely thanks to Philippe Lévaillé, the French-born Executive Chef who has become known for his unique ability to create high-end, comfort Italian cuisine using classical French technique and training. Last year, Lévaillé joined the ranks of several celebrity chefs opening outposts in Hong Kong, by bringing L’altro and many of his signature dishes to the city’s hungry foodies.
The interiors are a sleek vision of black, grey, and white, with sharp design touches like glossy mirrors, white marble and Murano glass – at L’altro, all colour is only to be found on the plate. Diners can opt to order a la carte, or sample one of four tasting menus on offer.
The 6 or 8-course degustation menus feature dishes like ‘One Side Roasted Scallop’ with beurre blanc and herring roe and ‘Crispy Quail on Its Own Eggs’ with black truffle potato cream, while the decadent 10-course ‘Philippe’s Menu’ includes the divine ‘Poached Foie Gras Cube’ with potato spaghetti. The seasonal special ‘White Truffle Menu’ is perfect for occasions of all-out indulgence, L’altro being one of the few HK restaurants serving the sought-after Alba Madonna from Northern Italy. Go!
