It wasn’t long ago that the term ‘sports bar’ conjured up worrying images of volatile, beer swilling, peanut crunching football and baseball fanatics, but in recent times this most rarified of beasts has undergone something of a sea change, and nowhere more so than at Shore Hospitality’s latest Kowloon offering, Eastside Tavern.
Opened last month, this New York-style gastropub not only serves a grandslam roundup of American comfort classics, but raises the bar with 4,000 sq ft of well-appointed space incorporating no less than 7 flat screen TVs and two large scale projector screens, as well as a games room for pool, darts and foosball.
Designed to attract (and distract!) everyone from whole families to sports buddies, there are 18 craft beers and a generous wine list to accompany the menu, which dishes up traditional cobb salads, gourmet burgers, steak pies and roast chicken, as well as Serrano, fig and Persian feta salad, pancetta-wrapped pan-fried scallops, and rich, racks of ribs.
Don’t miss the sticky-sweet honey barbecue pulled pork roll, and save space for the frankly sinful banoffee pie. The semi-alfresco dining area makes for the perfect respite from the sporting action, and combined with its all day opening hours, has more a feel of a country club without the expense of a debenture! Home base!
