Let Them Eat Cake
C'est La B
If you’ve ever wandered down NoHo’s Gough Street, it’s likely you, like us, have pressed your nose longingly against the window of Ms. B’s Cakery to marvel at owner Bonnie Gokson’s extravagant, waistline-destroying creations within. And it seems we are not alone.
So popular the sweet temptations proved, that a sibling café-bar outpost named C’est la B was opened in Tai Hang just one year ago. Predictably, that too was a runaway success, and now the divine Ms. B is sabotaging even more diet plans with the opening of her second C’est la B branch in Admiralty’s Pacific Place.
Gokson’s formula of a daily selection of some of her 30 bite-sized cakes, desserts and sweets, savoury pies and sandwiches, plus specialty tea, organic coffee, beer, wine and champagne is clearly a winning one.
The brand’s inherent whimsical style is felt throughout the cosy space, with black and white striped flooring, teapot-shaped lighting, mismatched crockery and a liberally spread butterfly motif creating a Mad Hatter-esque feel. Expect to find signature creations like Sunshine (lemon and poppy seed chiffon cake filled with lemon curd and fresh cream) and Whoopie (red velvet with pineapple and vanilla bean cream cheese), plus panna cottas, mousses and more, but be warned: just one glance will have you throwing Atkins, South Beach and the Zone to the wind!
