So Long Frizz!
HK’s Best Blowout Bars
With humidity levels reaching up to 90 percent, Hong Kong weather is a gal’s worst nightmare when it comes to mane maintenance. From sleek shower-fresh siren in the mornings, to flustered fluffball by evening, most of us are in no state to hit the tiles without a little fix-up. So it’s with a great sigh of relief that our sultry little island welcomes the trend that has already taken the US by storm – the blow dry bar! No cuts, no colour, no fuss just deft fingers, a curling brush and a few clever blasts of hot air.
First came Airplay Blow Dry Bar on Wyndham Street – perfectly positioned for a post-work pre-drinks pampering – offering a wash (with a choice of fragrant shampoos), followed by a blow-dry, styling or updo, and accompanied of course by rosé bubbly and macarons. The menu is cocktail-themed, with options like the Sea Breeze promising bouncy waves, or the Long Island Iced Tea offering poker-straight tresses. Meanwhile, over on Elgin Street, Amika Hairdo Bar has set up shop with a menu of 12 different hairstyles (like Bohemian Babe with side plait and waves). The salon’s gold-stencilled walls and studded gold seats are ever so au fait (à la Great Gatsby), and in keeping with that theme, the bubbly flows freely here too! So long frizz, hello fizz!
