As the mercury starts to plummet, and you inevitably find yourself rooting around the closet in search of last year’s winter woollies, remember the name Souchi. Just in time to offer Chicagoans stylish respite from the bone-chilling cold, designer Suzi Johnson has launched her knitwear-heavy Lincoln Park boutique – all you have to do is follow the steady stream of chattery-teethed fashionistas beelining to her front door.
With the brand’s only other US flagship located in Aspen, there’s no doubting the namesake collection of luxurious cashmere sweaters and snuggly separates hits both the cold-banishing and chic-exuding nails squarely on the head. But in addition to the hand-loomed cashmere Izzy shells, chunky merino Mary Kate cardigans and funnel-neck Paige vests, Johnson has also brought to the display table a range of casually elegant supplement stock by other noted designers. There are blazers by Gianda Forde, Enza Costa cotton tees and tunics, Johnny Farah’s textured leather belts, along with bronze cuffs, pendants and studs by local jeweller Winifred Grace. With a slew of high-profile gigs on her resumé (her pieces have featured on TV series including Friends, Melrose Place and 90210) and a celebrity client list featuring everyone from Kim Kardashian to Katherine Heigl, we’d say Johnson has star-worthy seasonal style for the masses all stitched up.
