Top Chef's Italian Tavern
Stylishly combining the rusticity inherent to the word ‘tavern’ and the contemporary elements of an industrial city-centre eatery, Siena Tavern is Top Chef alum Fabio Viviani’s new 10,000 sq ft, red-hot Italian diner and bar, boasting six distinct areas all heaving with smouldering Mediterranean vibes. While the dining room is fitted with half-moon leather booths and exposed Edison bulb lighting, there’s also a granite-topped bar area with DJ booth, a specialist pizza/crudo bar, slick private dining area and two elevated decks with stone walls and polished rivets.
After selecting a craft cocktail from mixologist Revae Schneider’s list of libations (like the No.8 of Johnny Walker Black, honey, apricot, Bittercube Jamaican and grapefruit), peruse Viviani’s ‘made from scratch’ menu, and begin with luscious charcuterie or head straight to appetisers like Bar Harbor Mussels with smoked pancetta or grilled octopus with duck-fat potatoes. For mains, choose from the crudo bar specialties like Ahi Tuna with fennel and peppercorns, or opt for double-cut veal chop, seafood Brodetto (with shrimp, clams, sea bass, tomato broth, grilled polenta and pepper aioli) or Jidori Farm brick chicken. Saved room for dessert? Then why not try the chocolate mousse with salted caramel and pecan brittle, or the delectable Cannolis of dark chocolate, hand-dipped ricotta, candied orange and pistachio gelato. Buon appetito!
