Design Inspiration Pops Up
Explore, experiment, experience. This is the tagline for the innovative concept pop-up Luminaire-X, which has opened its doors a floor above Chicago’s much-loved permanent gallery and retail furniture and fashion hub Luminaire. Open until mid-May, the temporary store features a rotating roster of on-trend apparel and homeware designs reminiscent of the stylish showroom below, while hosting showcase events for the brand partners, including local food and beverage suppliers like Popcorn Asylum and Madison. The self-proclaimed ‘interactive playground’, set in a chic space of cement flooring, white walls and floor-to-ceiling windows, aims to bring a dynamic community of unique brands to market at prices that won’t break the bank.
German fashion designer Katrin Schnabl is just one of the famed names stocked, with the vibrantly coloured, boldly silhouetted shapes of her Spring 2013 collection sitting alongside LIMB, her limited edition range of hanging art that includes knitted plastic membranes made from recycled plastic bags. There’s also a selection of cargo and city bikes from J.C. Lind, graphic and tech-inspired womenswear by Anke Loh, as well as Patricia Urquiola’s embellished contemporary furniture like the Antibodi lounge chair adorned with white and red petals. Add in Tejo Remy’s milk bottle lamps and modular sofas by Francesco Binfare, and there is something to sate the most modern and design-savvy of palates. Ready, set, experience!
