Sheffield Garden Walk & Festival
Spring and summer mean festival-time across countries and cultures the world over, but of the myriad celebrations that take place, some of the prettiest are those that highlight the glorious natural flora of their home country. Tokyo is famed for its stunning sakura season
, London is abloom each May for the Chelsea Flower Show, and in Chicago, neighbourhood landscapes are celebrated annually at the Sheffield Garden Walk & Music Festival, hosted by the Sheffield Neighbourhood Association (SNA) and this year celebrating its 45th anniversary over the two-day event (July 20-21).
Offering self-guided tours of more than 100 private gardens in the historic neighbourhood, the Garden Walk also hosts architectural tours, as well as provides music and food, with proceeds benefiting local community initiatives and institutions. For those seeking a little more guidance, expert-led landscape tours are held on Saturday and Sunday at 3.30pm, and from noon each day kids can participate in a variety of activities like face painting, petting zoo visits, storytime and sports. Adults can enjoy a lineup of local musical talent including folk-bluegrass outfit Carbon Leaf, Gaelic Storm’s chart-topping crossover sounds, and the energetic Funkadesi, while Robinson’s Ribs and Quang Noodle provide delicious culinary diversions. All you have to do to get involved is make a $7 (before 3pm) or $10 (after 3pm) donation at the gate - green and great value!
