Retail Therapy, Literally

Comfort Me Boutique

It was her background as a marriage and family therapist that led Melanie Thomas to establish Comfort Me Boutique with her two daughters, Alyssa and Bethany. Longing to find a store that reflected her passion for all things mind, body and soul-easing, Thomas took matters into her own hands, and a lovingly-curated edit of relaxed and relaxing fashion, beauty, art, home and garden was born. So popular the store proved, that a move to bigger, more comfortable (pun intended) premises on Lincoln Park’s West Armitage Avenue was fast-tracked in July.

With products sourced everywhere from independent designers and artisans, to trade shows and even flea markets, Comfort Me’s shelves overflow with easy-to-wear women’s fashion from labels like Bella Dahl, Shalini Styles and David Khan, snuggly soft knits and dreamy sleepwear by Only Hearts, vintage accessories and colorful Nicki Jean and Teru Amaro baubles, quirky décor pieces including Pyar & Co’s Eastern-inspired pillows and cushions, plus bath products by Further and k.hall designs. Add to the mix gardening items, herbal teas, fine chocolates and candles galore and you have what is probably every woman’s secret, self-indulgent fantasy stash. And the best part – the environmentally aware gals see to it that a significant portion of the collection (plus store fixtures and packaging) is either locally-made, fair trade, recycled or organic. Now that’s retail therapy.

The birthplace of skyscrapers ascends ever higher into city stardom with its cultural reach, culinary fireworks, and architectural icons. Don’t be fooled by the namesake “Second City”, Chicago is a first-rate destination for dining and nightlife, jazz, sports, comedy, art, and walks along stunning Lake Michigan.
