Fashionable Fellas, Assemble!
Apartment Number 9
A wood and concrete space in bohemian Bucktown may not seem like the setting for a retail hub bursting at the seams with wardrobe stockers for the sophisticated man, but when sisters Amy and Sarah Blessing sought to re-dress the guys of Chicago in dapper designer threads and opened Apartment Number 9 back in 2001, the fashionable set soon descended, eager to scout the array of designers dedicated solely to stylish fellas.
Riding high on the success of their recent Oak St pop-up, this intimate boutique offers both quality and quantity, stocking an abundance of high-end apparel from the classic to the trendsetting with acclaimed names like Jack Spade, Michael Kors and Alexander Wang. Dandy gents can choose from checked Paul Smith shirts, ties by local designer Lee Allison, the smart styles of Seize Sur Vingt, Rag & Bone neutral-toned canvas jackets, and jeans by Earnest Sewn, along with tailored blazers and patterned button-downs, and even (exclusively in Chicago) funky brands Dries Van Noten and Maison Martin Margiela. And with accessories like cashmere socks, cufflinks, Libero Ferrero bags and footwear by Wings & Horns (sneakers) and Band of Outsiders (boots), this menswear mecca proves once and for all that casual-chic doesn’t always have to mean a Chicago Bulls cap and baseball tee.
