Talk about a brand rebirth. Since taking the reigns of the renamed Saint Laurent (sans Yves), Hedi Slimane has not only breathed new life into the iconic but floundering fashion house, he’s set about bringing his coveted cache to the hungriest retail markets at lightning speed. So after a 3-year hiatus in the Windy City – post the closure of the former YSL space and following flagship launches in Shanghai, Paris, Beverly Hills and London – SL finally returned to Chicago on December 5 with the debut of a glam Gold Coast boutique. If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of stampeding fashionistas galloping towards their recently flung open front doors.
The latest addition to the stylish fold is as refined and edgy as its international counterparts, boasting a high-ceilinged, monochrome marble-bedecked, 2,375 sq ft interior where the full spectrum of SL products are stocked each season, and video screens display the latest campaign images, all shot by Slimane himself. From women’s RTW and cruise to fine jewellery and menswear, handbags, accessories and shoes, the SL gang’s all here and sitting pretty alongside neighbours including Marc Jacobs. We think Yves would be proud. Now, purses out!
