The Smash Hit Broadway Musical Comes to LA
Book of Mormon
What’s knee-slappingly funny, the winner of nine Tony awards (including ‘Best Musical’) and coming to Los Angeles this autumn? None other than the hysterical religious satire musical, Book of Mormon. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame, along with Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, the smash hit production has enjoyed a much-accoladed and consistently sold-out run on New York City’s Broadway since opening in March 2011, and the show is now heading west for a 12-week tour at the Pantages Theatre.
The story follows a pair of Mormon missionaries on their journey to a remote Ugandan village. While trying to share Mormon scripture, they come face-to-face with the harsh realities of local life, and they must re-discover what their faith means to them. Naturally, hilarity ensues with generous helpings of profanity thrown in, hardly surprising given the South Park team are at the helm. Lauded as the ‘best musical of the century’ by the New York Times, Book of Mormon is irreverent, clever, witty and above all very entertaining. Pair it up with a pre or post burger at the nearby fave Bowery Bar & Grill, and you’ve got yourself a dandy night out.
