Sushi On The Shore

Nobu Malibu

Sun, sea and sake are the orders of the day at Nobu Malibu, reopened this past August in a sleek new beachfront locale. As renowned for its prepared-to-perfection Japanese cuisine as it is for its moviestar co-owner Robert De Niro, Nobu’s latest outpost reinvigorates the classic menu by way of exclusive plate additions from executive chef Gregorio Stephenson, with dishes like ribeye with truffle butter sauce and crispy Maui onions, and Kobe beef with shitake mushrooms.

But seasoned Nobu-philes can rest easy knowing the man himself, maestro Matsuhisa, has ensured many of the signatures from his glitzy global eateries are available here too, including the fan favourite yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno and black cod with miso. The difference is, they can now be taken in along with jaw-dropping ocean vistas from almost every seat in the house.

With an interior as chic as its clientele, the sun and moon-lit hotspot is a white and sandy teak minimalist haven, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a prime exterior deck and lounge handy for alfresco bites and sundowners.

A stroll through the indoor Japanese garden will lead you to the intimate private dining area complete with fireplace and waterfall – the perfect place for secluded sips and whispered sweet nothings, or if you’ve forgotten to book ahead, there’s a first come, first served 14-seat sushi bar that’s most definitely worth the wait. Kanpai!

Los Angeles' seemingly endless sun-kissed days and balmy nights, the palm trees, the canyons, the ocean… but that’s just half the story. The city of eternal youth, beauty and paparazzi is also home to a knockout dining scene, spa, art and culture galore and more shopportunity than you ever thought possible.
