Until January this year, the Beverly Hills-based following of French gourmet market and café Monsieur Marcel would have had to head due east to the original, 13-year-old Farmers Market branch or southwest to Santa Monica in search of their famed bistro fare, wine selection and myriad deli-ghts. But now, thankfully, having to take this pilgrimage is a thing of the past with the arrival of a fresh 90210 locale, complete with a gussied-up, modern interior of red and white, indoor and alfresco seating and a 100-ft-long wine display lining an entire wall and comprising more than 800 wines.
Like its forebears, the BH branch’s shelves are also stocked with imported cheese, charcuterie, spreads, caviar, pasta, olive oil and dessert, but in a new and very welcome twist there’s also a ready-made food section, offering convenient, pre-prepared dishes to-go, like rotisserie chicken, ratatouille and potato gratin. For the dine-in crowd, the 136-seat all-day restaurant serves up a barrage of French comfort favourites including breakfast pastries, crostini, quiches, salads (nicoise), fish and seafood (moules and coques marinieres) and meats (beef bourguignon), and you can enjoy any of the wines in store for a $20 corkage charge. Round off with mousse au chocolate or tarte tatin, and wave adieu to your waistline as you say bonjour, Monsieur.
