Hunt for Treasures at LA’s Best Thrift Market
Rose Bowl Flea Market
Californians are known for their laid-back, vintage-hipster style, and where better to shop the local look than at one of LA’s most famous bazaars, the Rose Bowl Flea Market. The huge thrift event takes place in Pasedena each month, and features a staggering range of fabulous wares from yesteryear and today, including vintage clothing, antique furniture, art, jewellery, and fresh produce. Find rack upon rack of everything from denim cut-offs and Levi’s to pre-loved Chanel handbags and Ferragamo heels, carved wooden objèts d’arts, gadgets and trinkets to potted plants and homewares. When hunger strikes, and it will, there are myriad palate-pleasing treats on offer, including grilled sandwiches, sushi bowls and fresh lemonade.
The sprawling market zone spans eight kilometres and comprises 2,500 individual vendors, but don’t worry about getting lost, there are colour-coded maps to direct you to specific merchandise areas. The market opens at 5am and closes at 4.30pm, but in order to avoid the masses and the scorching sun you’d do well to arrive before 8am or after 3pm, when some of the best bargains can be found. Comfortable shoes and sunscreen are a must, and if you are looking for a big haul, best bring a large bag. Happy hunting!
