Garrett Leight California Optical
In LA fashion lore, it’s no secret that Venice-born Garrett Leight knew exactly what kind of lifestyle goods, eyewear or otherwise, that his fellow LA natives would deem necessary wardrobe additions, with his gimlet eye leading unsurprisingly to the wildly successful launch of his eponymous optical brand in 2009.
3 short years later, his curated selection of vintage and contemporary eyeglasses, footwear, apparel, books and music had proved so popular that this past December a West Hollywood flagship was constructed, providing the rest of greater LA’s modern gentlemen easier access to Leight’s continuously building brand.
A sleek minimalist vision, the La Brea shop is all white walls and polished concrete, and sparsely decorated but for the glasses, shoes, and prints tastefully lining the space. With nothing else to draw the eye’s focus, Leight maintains the highest standard for selecting his products, as is evident in the many pairs of rare and hard-to-find frames on the shelves – there are one-of-a-kind Oliver Peoples and handmade pieces by New York label Silver Linings, in addition to GLCO’s impeccably-crafted house brand (using polarised lenses that are sourced from the South of Italy and Japan).
For the astigmatism-afflicted, the on-site, full-service lab and in-house licensed opticians mean that creating a bespoke pair – whether it’s custom matting or lens dying you’re after – is as easily said as it is done. Opti-go!
