Head Downtown for Artsy Thursdays
Downtown Art Walk
It may have had humble beginnings back in 2004, attracting just 75 casual wanderers, but today the Los Angeles Downtown Art Walk is hardly recognisable, now a vibrant art-centric social scene that plays host to over 10,000 global visitors each month.
Held every second Thursday come rain or shine, the Walk is a free self-guided tour that provides a unique opportunity for art lovers, tourists and local Los Angelenos alike to celebrate the arts together in the ever-evolving Downtown district.
More than 50 galleries, displaying sculptures, photography, paintings and more, join together to take part in this nationally-recognised event (next held on December 13), staying open late to share their newest exhibitions with the viewing public. The galleries include 7+FIG Art Space, Gallery at REDCAT, Museum of Neon Art and the Deborah Martin Gallery.
But it’s not all about the art. As the Walk has grown in popularity, many shops, bars and restaurants have also extended their opening hours to cater to those taking part, and food, jewellery and other homemade knick-knack stalls now line the pedestrian-friendly streets offering mid-Walk snacking and shopportunity galore. Culture, food and klatsch – clear your diary and head downtown!
