Melrose Coffee Shop
Alfred Coffee & Kitchen
Melrose Place is abundant in high-end shopportunity, so it was with open (and bag-laden) arms that Los Angeles locals welcomed the perfect spot for a mid-retail refuel, new cool kid on the coffee block, Alfred. Opened in January by Joshua Zad, this trendy java-shop and kitchen boasts two storeys of bare brick, rustic floorboards and floral wallpaper with a working white fireplace and wooden furniture.
And just in case the chic fitout wasn’t enough to earn its spot on the city’s most stylish street, the staff come kitted in Rag & Bone uniforms and there’s live music every Friday too.
Serving a range of Stumptown Coffees as well as hot chocolates and tea, they also do limited edition brews and a signature Summer Rose latte with rose aromas and notes of elderflower. And because refuelling is not just about the drink, their freshly-baked fare includes banana muffins, sour cherry and chocolate scones, savoury turkey and cheese croissants and delectable pastries like apple fantes and an apricot Danish.
There’s also organic brand Choc’s gluten-free, salted caramel and peanut butter-honey brownies, or for something more substantial choose the Croft salad of arugula, organic free-range roasted chicken, avocado and julienned snap-peas, or the specialty Alfred sandwich with homemade turkey meatballs, classic tomato sauce and mozzarella. Either dine-in or grab a cup of Joe to go and beeline back to the shops.
