7,000 sq ft Downtown LA Eatery
Towne Food & Drink
With all-star culinary credentials from owner Armen Shirvanian (of Pasadena’s acclaimed Mi Piace), star chefs Ryan Morrison (of Scarpetta) and Eric Hara (of davidburke), and pastry chef Tamara Davis (of Bottega Louie), it’s little wonder that Towne Food & Drink is off to a stellar start. Open since July this year, the restaurant occupies a staggering 7,000 sq ft, divided into three spaces – the airy dining room with soaring, sheer-draped, floor-to-ceiling windows and red banquettes, the wood-panelled, leather-ceilinged bar and lounge, and the sunny outdoor patio.
As for the food, the Nouveau American menu translates to items like chicken liver popcorn, pastrami pork belly sliders, braised rabbit tagliatelle, and 28-day aged prime rib eye from the wood grill, served with sauces like miso Bearnaise and bone marrow butter. The drink menu is equally playful, with signature cocktails like ‘CoCo Punch’, made with Jim Beam, Cocoa Pebbles cereal milk, nutmeg and Cocoa Pebbles, and the ‘Pisco Hawaiian Punch’ with Barsol pisco, apricot brandy, and house punch. If the cocktails are a bit too inventive, however, there’s also a selection of West Coast beers, plus a white ale from Maine and a Belgian strong ale. And if you’ve room for dessert left over, why not sample one of Chef Davis’ colourful macarons too?
