Antonio Castillo de la Gala joins The Peninsula after more than 12 years of performing at the Hotel Bel-Air, which will close in October 2009 for a renovation. With more than 2,000 tunes committed to memory, Antonio plays music that ranges from classical, Broadway and movie themes to pop.
A native of Veracruz, Mexico, Antonio learned to play piano from his grandmother at the age of three and performed on the radio when he was five years old. In 1976 he earned a degree from the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, where he later taught. A winner of a Chopin competition in Mexico, Antonio performed on the concert circuit and in nightclubs before moving to the United States, where he began building his L.A. following while playing in the Polo Lounge of The Beverly Hills Hotel during the 1980s. Antonio Castillo de la Gala’s VIP fans include Paul McCartney, Robert Goulet and Billy Joel, with whom he once performed duets.
