Zephyr by Lio.H
With her background as a freelance brand consultant for fashion house Alexander McQueen and Moet Hennessy Diageo, Chinese designer Lio He’s epiphany came on a train to Versailles while consulting for Parfums Dior in Paris. The article she read in a newspaper that fateful day was a feature on that most classic of accessories, the silk scarf – the fact that the history of silk is so inextricably linked with that of China (examples have been found dating back to 3500BC) resonated so deeply with He that she quit her job, returning to her homeland in 2012 to set up the Zephyr brand of exclusive silk and cashmere neckwear.
Having spent the months before launch sourcing the finest fabric from Hangzhou (renowned as the Realm of Silk) and experimenting with digital printing techniques and capabilities, He produced a stunning range of large format, colour-saturated, graphic works of art that are as collectable as they are wearable. Drawing on cross-cultural references with a delicate oriental slant that melds femininity and modernity, each handmade and individually named piece incorporates 100% natural pigments. Who can resist names like Fiery Rococo, Neo Giverny and Wanderlust? But our favourite is the rich midnight purple cashmere and silk blend Sonata Rondo from the Transenergy collection, with its exotically tinted leaves and vegetables. Botanic chic!
