Tom Ford Womenswear
While superstar designer Tom Ford launched his menswear line way back in 2007, he kept ladies on tenterhooks until 2010, when he finally unveiled his debut womenswear collection to rave reviews and fashion industry frenzy. Even so, for the females of the East, the chic pieces have still proved elusive, with no women’s flagship anywhere in the region - until now, that is. Much to the delight of fashionistas across the Chinese capital, the maestro has at last unveiled his debut womenswear boutique, adjoining the men’s store in the Beijing Peninsula Hotel, and also housing TF perfumery, eyewear and cosmetics (in alliance with Estée Lauder).
Unsurprisingly, Ford’s spring/summer 2013 collection is as chic and elegant as seasons past, featuring gorgeous faux-snakeskin maxi-skirts in black and royal blue, ankle-grazing black patent leather jackets, and casual pastel bombers with matching peachy-pink, razor-sharp suiting. But as usual it’s Tom’s red carpet-worthy dresses that steal the glamourous show, with daring thigh-high splits, metallic mesh and appliqués, and a striking batwing silhouette as this year’s design highlights. And because the perfect outfit would be incomplete without equally enviable footwear, there’s black and gold spiked wedges, strappy, sky-high stilettos and the ultimate shoe showstopper - knee-high gladiator sandal-boots proving a firm favourite with edgy celebrities. Oh, Tommy!
