And The Crowd Roars!
Rambunctious football fans and high falutin’ fine dining might not seem an obvious match, but in fact they go seamlessly together at Oyster Talk, the Hong Kong-based seafood bar’s first mainland venture, situated in the Beijing Workers Stadium otherwise known as Gongti and venue to many a rowdy game. Nestled along the route popular with the city’s joggers, this upscale bistro features a bivalve bar laden with rotating varieties of un-shucked shells, including Black Pearl, Fleur des Eaux, Fines de Claire and Gillardeau imported from France, Australia, New Zealand, and even as far afield as South Africa.
With floor-to-ceiling windows, elegant polished wooden floors, white napery and smart, aproned waiters, Oyster Talk boasts a setting both commodious and stylish. Fret not if slurping freshly shucked oysters is not up your street – the menu stretches to multiple dishes including handmade linguine with a warming tomato chilli scallop sauce; grilled lamb chops; 48-month-aged Spanish iberico; and a velvety, umami-rich mushroom-truffle soup. After the molten chocolate cake and sinful caramel pudding have been safely dispatched, the bill may come as a minor shock (even by Beijing standards), but where oysters are concerned can you ever pay too much for shells this fresh?
