Mainland-Style Mega Haven
Nisiss
The rise in the quality, complexity and availability of homegrown Chinese fashion has been nothing short of stratospheric in Beijing, and the recent opening of a gigantic Nisiss concept store has only served to reinforce the city’s ever-growing reputation as a style hub. Since the brand’s 2001 debut, a string of flagships has cropped up across the country, including stores in Shanghai’s Xintiandi Style and Guangzhou’s Taikoo Hui, firmly establishing it as one of China’s most exciting and luxurious ‘ones to watch’. And now at long last, BJ fashionistas can finally place hands on the multi-fabric, multi-texture and myriad-style range at the elegant and simply appointed Sanlitun Village mega-store, where a maze of smaller subsections each house mini collections-within-a-collection.
With an aesthetic that sits smartly at the intersection of East and West design, the Guangzhou-based brand’s seasonal lines feature a blend of utterly feminine as well as almost androgynous inspiration, along with the signature sharp, structured tailoring, soft, flowing layers, modern dresses, Chanel-esque jackets and sleek coats. A smattering of subtle nods to pioneering crossover labels such as Phillip Lim, Vivienne Tam and Shanghai Tang are woven throughout the collections, and like the work of its contemporaries, Nisiss’ impeccably crafted, sought-after garments tend to inspire rather hefty end-of-month credit card statements. Well, whoever said looking fabulous was cheap, darling?
