Melding the style and cuisine of Italy and New York, Jon Chiu’s new restaurant and lounge Main Street landed in Shuangjing in January. The back-lit, ultraviolet glow bar is the chic lounge’s central feature surrounded by cushioned leather stools, making it the perfect spot to sample the signature Bloody Mary cocktail, one of 75 imported beers (including local SlowBoat brews), a glass from the long wine list or a spirit and mixer like Avion tequila. Chic black tables and faux bare-brick walls adorned with photographs of New York’s iconic yellow cabs complete the sophisticated vibe.
As for the Italian-American menu, choose from 34 appetizers like fried buffalo wings and bacon-wrapped shrimp, before large plates like pizzas, pastas and burgers. Topping the list of must-tries however are the succulent grilled chicken in mushroom sauce with bacon-mashed potatoes, and seafood specialties like the Clam Mussel Chowder (with croutons, bacon, potatoes and carrots) or the Mussel Pots imported from New Zealand and available in ten different flavours. Particularly delectable are mussels enhanced by the Dijon mustard option with creme fraiche and white wine, a coconut broth monikered Bangkok, or the spicy Fra Diavolo sauce of tomato and garlic.
