Vineyard Café on the River
One of the greatest joys of city living the world over is that most congenial and social of meals – brunch. Loyal customers are rightly selective, nay downright protective over their favourite perc and pastry, or ‘Eggs Ben’, and so it was with a collective cry of joy that Beijinger’s welcomed the new outpost of perennial favourite brunchster Vineyard Cafe. Unlike its Wudaoying hutong-based sister, Vineyard Cafe on the River is located on Liangmahe South Road and boasts not only two floors of spacious, glass-plated dining, but also a rooftop terrace, and of course, views over the Liangmahe River.
On the menu are all the well-loved comfort favourites like The Ben-Addiction (poached eggs with French ham, muffin and hollandaise), and The Ben-E ‘Fish’ial with poached eggs and Norwegian
salmon on arugula, as well as a host of carb-famed Meaty ‘Orite pizzas with roast chicken, bacon, pepperoni and ham bolognaise, or pork schnitzel with sauteed cabbage, caramelised onions and mustard cream, plus the light and crispy asparagus parcel pie with creme fraiche and Gruyere. Add a New World-inflected wine list with plenty of robust shiraz and Carmenere, and even owner Will Yorke’s home-brewed craft ales and all you need are the Sunday papers, and possibly a hangover to recover from!
