Finer In China!
House Of Willow
Historically in Asia, if you wanted top quality vintage and pre-loved jewellery and accessories, you popped yourself on a plane to Tokyo, from where the gimlet-eyed Japanese buyers regularly spread out across the globe in search of the finest and choice pieces, hauling them back to the Land of the Rising Sun for collectors and aficionados alike.
Fast forward to the present, and Beijing has emerged as a new vintage destination with the opening of House of Willow, where Hong Kong-born Australian curator Karen Leung and her husband Michael Xing set forth their wares, sourced from as far and wide as New York, Paris and Florence.
Careful attention is paid to quality, detail and provenance, with many pieces sourced at auction to bring together a collection that is at once eminently wearable and certainly unique. Alongside a mint condition quilted leather Chanel pouchette, you’ll find shoes, bags and jewels ranging right back to the 30s and including selected Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès and Balenciaga pieces, alongside more contemporary cuffs, necklaces and rings.
With plans in the pipeline for Shanghai and Hong Kong outposts, it may not be long before we could be saying farewell to Nippon nostalgia, because it’s simply finer in China!
