With premium brand shopping off the scale in the capital it’s little wonder that a slew of new malls are taking shape to accommodate Beijing’s obsession with retail therapy – and where there are smart shops, you’ll find smart dining options too. Launched in late 2012, the swish Swire Properties Indigo Mall is the perfect perch for popular steakhouse Flamme’s new branch, and as timely as it’s targeted – family favourite CGV Xingxing International Cinema is also in the building.
The joy of this second outpost of Flamme is not so much the differences (like the shiny contemporary glass and metal fitout) as the similarities, among them attentive service and above all, the prime cuts and great value. Using imported as well as local meats, steaks are cooked sous-vide before they are grilled for maximum flavour, while the pork tenderloin comes tenderised for 2 days in milk brine. Elsewhere on the menu, look out for skillet-roasted mussels, crunchy bruschetta with wild mushrooms and Himalayan black truffles, and the lightly breaded sea bass with wilted spinach. For family shoppers Flamme offers the requisite stacked burgers and pizza standbys, but don’t miss the the downright sinful matchstick fries (ask for a side of the habanero hollandaise steak sauce) for carb perfection. Fire up to Flamme!
