Fresh Name, Fresh Look

Element Fresh

They've been renowned for bringing delicious and healthy international fare to the mainland since opening their first branch in 2002, so it seems only just that Element Fresh’s Sanlitun Village outpost now has a bright new look to match its zesty name. Originating in Shanghai, the restaurant chain now boasts more than a dozen branches in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing combined (with just two in the Chinese capital), and bursting back into business after its July closure, the Sanlitun branch offers up more of what’s made the brand a runaway success – namely, comfortable food, generous portions and a relaxed home-style vibe, along with a menu of winter specials designed to warm you up as the mercury continues to drop.

The pale wood-clad interior offers diners a casual, airy ambience, while the balcony overlooking Sanlitun’s famous Bar Street is a lively alfresco spring and summer dining option and chill spot. Until then, get cosy with hearty seasonal dishes like winter vegetable soup, chorizo and bell pepper rigatoni, rich cold-weather favourite ossobuco, and delectable local flavours like beef in sour-apple broth with udon noodles. The regular menu of salads, sandwiches, pastas, meats and seafood returns, along with a big western breakfast menu served weekdays from 10am and 8am on weekends. Get fresh!

From Ming to bling in 60 seconds, Beijing’s meteoric rise to world-shattering super-city is as unrelenting as it’s astonishing. Steeped in history and mystique, from its fast disappearing hutongs to its staggering new skyscrapers, the capital of China is without doubt one of the most exciting places to be on the planet.
