Sunny Sanlitun Café
Beijing’s Sanlitun boasts much of the city’s best shopping – home to jeweller Nicolas Favard
, fabulous milliner Elizabeth Koch,
and luxury vintage accessorizer House of Willow
to name but a few – and where there is great shopping, there must also be great nibbling. For a mid retail workout break, or if you’ve brought along the children and they’re in need of a sugary pick-me-up, the tried and true Colibri Café is conveniently located in a tall, mod glass building in Village North. Famed since opening for their kooky and creative cupcakes, they’ve recently moved to specialise in savoury treats too, with a menu listing standby café staples.
The light-filled indoor space features floor-to-ceiling windows, white surfaces, and communal blond wood tables, while an outside patio space offers tables perfect for people-watching over a latte. Fan favourites from the sandwich and soup-focused menu include the Peking duck wrap and brie panini, while kids love classics like spaghetti bolognese and roast beef sandwiches, and all can indulge in the signature cupcake selection. The decadent double chocolate and raspberry are bestsellers, but the matcha is a must-try, as is the carrot and zucchini. A sunny spot to sate your sweet tooth!
