Keller's Buns Land In BJ
From plain and classic, to piled-high and haute, in the past decade the humble hamburger has been reinvented by some of the world’s most revered chefs. Though the breadth of competition is wide, no discussion on this past, present and no doubt future trend would be complete without mention of the name Hubert Keller. The French-born, American restaurateur and cookbook author is renowned for not only his fine diners Fleur de Lys in San Francisco and Las Vegas’ Fleur by Hubert Keller, but also his wildly popular US-based Burger Bar chain that’s most recently set up shop in a rather unlikely new location – Beijing.
Marking the first international outpost for Keller, Burger Bar Beijing moved into the smart Parkview Green complex this past June, bringing in tow the signature recipes and decadent Build Your Own Burger concept for which Keller has gained a cult following. Though the décor leaves a little to be desired, with a rather bland, booth-and-high-tabled sports bar feel, classics like dry-rubbed Grilled Wings, Clam Chowder and the sensational Mediterranean Lamb Burger topped with tapenade, marinated eggplant, feta, coriander and mint more than make up for it. And with cocktails like the margarita-esque El Matador with fresh chili on offer, you may even want to hang around to catch the game!
