Franco-Brazilian fashion designer Anne Fontaine has made her first foray into China with the opening of an eponymous boutique in Beijing. The queen of white shirts earned her crown by daring to nurture a standout idea - that every woman needs a crisp white shirt at the centre of her wardrobe, like a blank canvas with which to inspire creativity.
And with Fontaine’s gorgeous range of Italian glass and leather-crafted jewellery, bags and cufflinks all available in-store, her clientele can certainly get creative when it comes to accessorising.
With all her shirts made in France, Fontaine sticks resolutely to the pilot, using only natural materials such as cotton, linen and organza to craft clean-lined cuts with simple collars and cuffs, as well as more elaborate styles bedecked in ruffles, lace and embroidery. Aside from those seeking effortless chic, Fontaine accommodates the more audacious shopper with a range of detachable collars, everything from the ruffed to the racier diamante-studded variety, allowing the simple white shirt to be taken from day to night in one easy step.
And who knows, perhaps the designer’s first venture into China will pave the way for her other great success to come east – the fabulous Anne Fontaine Spa in Paris. After all, who doesn’t want to look and feel good?
