The Bar & The Restaurant
There’s nothing like a spangling of solid gold to add glamour to any dining scene, and while in truth it may only be gilded, Bangkok has hit a rich seam in the shape of Moët & Chandon’s The Bar and the Restaurant on Sukhumvit’s busy and buzzing Soi 24.
Thai celebrity Krirkphol Masayavanich and Chef Olivier Daniel’s bubbling venture pairs a champagne and oyster bar (the city’s first) with a salon-style dining room upstairs, plus DJ and mid-week live jazz.
The downstairs scene of black walls, glittering gold tile bar, gilded Louis throne chairs and semi-private draped booths has proved a magnet for the city’s most sophisticated, swept away on a foaming free flow of Moët & Chandon, Fine de Claires, and an extensive iPad-presented cocktail list courtesy of celebrity mixologist Joseph Boroski.
Meanwhile in the robin egg blue-panelled dining room upstairs, a modern European menu is served, featuring lava stone-grilled US beef rib eye, velvety black-ink risotto (complete with 24-karat gold leaf, naturally), and a delightfully decadent Imperial Salad of duck breast, foie gras and goose liver terrine with truffled balsamic dressing. With oysters offered at 50% off on Wednesdays, suddenly mid-week is starting to look fizzy!
