With the drinks business the world over seemingly ga-ga for Prohibition-style speakeasies and nostalgia-laced cocktails, it’s charming and disarming to find a new and original spin on a scene that is close to becoming ubiquitous.
Popular club and soi 11 stalwart Q Bar has quietly opened one of Bangkok’s cutest little clandestine spots, tucked away behind the main bar, but with its own separate atmosphere and vibe. With an interior courtesy of artist Bruno Tanquerel channeling Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge and la belle epoque Paris, Le Derrière hides her opulent secrets safely behind her glamorous, boudoir-esque scarlet velvet furnishings, dark wood panels and black and white marble floor.
riding high in the popularity charts, it’s little wonder the green fairy makes her appearance on the menu no less than five times, including in the Lucid and Vieux Pontarlier, complete with dedicated bar fountains. And there’s plenty more than that to quaff, including Nicolas Feuillatte champagne and a full range of spirits and wines.
If you find yourself un peu peckish there’s a simple, but solid list of fine cheeses, charcuterie and foie gras on hand, and being semi-alfresco, you can even enjoy a cigar as you recline au chaise. C’est fou, c’est fab!
