Chatuchak Weekend Market
The biggest weekend market in the world, and arguably Asia's best, Chatuchak is the super-sized home of 35 acres and 5000+ stalls containing a wide assortment of miscellanea including fashion, fabrics, antiques, animals, art and lifestyle. Needless to say, novices can find the sheer scale of the experience somewhat daunting, so here are a few tips on how to tackle this mammoth market the LUXE-est way possible.
Begin at the Main Gate (Gate 3), and look up to see the clock tower. Make this the meeting place if your group gets separated. Take an immediate left upon entering and you’re in the first row of stalls in Section 3. You MUST stay in the outer two rings – the centre is where the madness lies. Meander along and eventually you'll come to Section 2 and fab perfume-seller Karmakamet, then turn right at the little spirit house into the 2nd outermost lane. Follow it around and look to the right of the covered market for a sign reading Section 26.
Enter directly under the sign, work your way as far up the cross lane, turn left, and come back down – always working to the left. Along the way you'll find lovely antiques and fabrics. Stop for a drink at Viva bar, 6 lanes to the left of the Section 26 sign, then forge on, turning right at the bike park and dipping in and out where you please.
At the end you'll see Gate 2, either head left here into Section 7 for contemporary art and lifestyle, or turn right into Section 8 and trot on for Aviv's ace leather totes and Jeed-Jard's spicy Isaan noodles. Have your driver collect you at Gate 2. Super shopper!
