Wine n' Fash
Bellino Wine Room & Boutique
Short of hopping on a plane this summer, you won’t get much closer to the real Italy in Bangkok than film director Jay Boccia’s new bar-restaurant Bellino Wine Room & Boutique. In the hope of encapsulating his hometown of Capri, Boccia came up with the rather unconventional combination of flowing wine, simple Italian bites, and lightweight summer fashion.
And as one might expect from a cinematographer, the bar’s aesthetics are spot on with rough white walls, tables made from antique window shutters, faded wooden doors and a tree-lined veranda outside that echoes the island’s bijou white-washed houses and shady piazzas.
The women’s capsule collection of handmade leather sandals along with fine white Italian linen clothing wouldn’t look amiss on the Amalfi Coast, and Boccia has even brought over Carthusia cologne made with Capri lemons, the perfect scent for balmy summer evenings. But better yet is the wine selection that’s racked up some 50 labels imported directly from small vineyards around the world, such as Bottega Prosecco and Tierra Del Fuego Cabernet Sauvignon.
Of course a good glass of wine begs accompaniment and like any true Italian, Boccia knows his way around a kitchen, serving up simple but tasty everyday Italian dishes like Penne Arrabiata with a dash of chili, and caprese salad with Napoli burrata as the star of the plate. Fashion and food - bellissimo!
